Following speech in noise is hard for everyone, and harder still with hearing loss. These simple techniques help noticeably.
Choose your seat
Sit with your back to a wall or corner — this reduces noise from behind. Pick a spot away from speakers and the kitchen.
Watch the face
Keep the speaker's face in view. Lip movement and expression give the brain extra information — even if you don't consciously notice.
Say it openly
Don't hesitate to say "I find it hard to hear in noise, could you speak a little slower." Most people take it well.
Use your device
Many modern hearing aids have a dedicated noise program. Ask your specialist how to switch to it.
If hearing in noise keeps getting harder, get your hearing checked.
